Balloon Dilation Procedure for the Eustachian Tube:
Under endoscopic control, the SPIGGLE & THEIS catheter is placed in the Eustachian tube using a special tool that prevents its advancement into the bony portion. A syringe with a manometer is used to inject saline into the balloon, inflating it.
The device maintains a pressure of up to 10 bar, with a maximum balloon diameter of 3.28 mm, which is sufficient to achieve the dilation effect. Afterward, the balloon returns to its original state and the system is removed from the auditory tube. The procedure takes between 10 to 20 minutes.
Success Rate: Full restoration of Eustachian tube function after balloon dilation is successful in 70-75% of patients with obstructive dysfunction, with a positive result often occurring immediately.
